I was in a ante-natal class as Ben Stokes was playing with one of those Test innings, almost Hurt keeping England in the Ashes.
Chris Woakes, Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow were out when I left the house and that I didn’t think England had much of a chance. I could not see how they were planning to get on the line as I was learning how to place on babygrows and nappies.
There was not much phone signal in the hospital. It was just when I came out that I got these messages “Stokesy, Stokesy, Stokesy!”
I got back as fast as I could watch the highlights, and don’t think I talked to my wife all of the way home.

These moments appear to get made for Stokesy, although clearly, the England group is full of unique cricketers. He wants to place himself. Whether it’s batting, bowling or fielding, then he wants to be the one who’s making the difference and winning games for his staff.
He’s got an immense quantity of self-belief. It’s not arrogance, but also a confidence in his own ability.
There were times before when England teams felt overawed by the likes of Australia, but Stokesy would back himself to succeed regardless of the opponents.
A lot of this is down to his prep. He is therefore ready and trains so difficult.
All the England team actually put the campaign in through exercise – but Stokesy does more.
Therefore I am a bowler. I’ll do my bowling, then I’ll have about 10 minutes in the nets.
Stokesy will do 40 minutes to a hour batting order, then do extra batting. He will get half an hour of fielding, subsequently bowl for 45 minutes.
In addition to that, but he will stay later to work on something specific. That may be carrying 10 grabs that are extra, or focusing on getting to the ball and releasing it fast, all at fit intensity.
Even someplace like Sri Lanka, the hottest, sweatiest spot to play cricket, Stokesy will do all that – then go back to the hotel gym and also do 30 sprints on the treadmill.

Where there can be a winner and a loser he competitive in anything. Stokesy will scream at the TV when his character isn’t doing what he desires While I play Mario Kart with him Joe Root.
When he plays golf, which he uses as a way to escape from cricket those juices bubble away.
One day during the World Stokesy Cup and Tom Curran played 54 holes . Not only that, but they did it all. A round on one class, drive to the next. Eighteen holes the next course.
I don’t think TC has performed because because he had been shattered.
It is his taste in music, if there’s one negative around Stokesy. It is really a great mix, although he says that the music is outdated. He has something for house music which has the car.
Back in the day, we had to road trip. There was only one night when I drove and Stokesy had his songs banging away.
He dropped asleep, so I thought:’If I can get the cable, I will get my music on.’
Though, had fallen asleep so that I couldn’t change the tunes hugging his phone.
He went ballistic, when I woke him up. I needed to buy him one of his favorite things – a carton of milk (full fat, he drinks heaps of the things ) – to have back him onside.

But when he speaks, everyone listens.
People talk of him being a pioneer, which is true, but he is also true, a team-mate who has your back. Stokesy desires the very best for everyone and he is always pleased to assist others with their game.
