The Western Conference of the NBA has seen??a shakeup at the top and for the first time in four seasons, the Golden State Warriors arent the favorite to represent the West in the NBA Finals. That distinction??belongs to the Los Angeles Clippers, that created the biggest splash in the offseason from nabbing Paul George and Kawhi Leonard.
Online sportsbook??BetOnline gets the Clippers as +225 faves to win the Conference and progress to their first NBA Finals in business history. Observing the Clips are the Los Angeles Lakers, their Staples Center roommates . Next on the oddsboard will be the Houston Rockets (+400), Golden State Warriors (+800) and also Utah Jazz (+900) to round out the top five.
After being rather insignificant for the past couple of seasons, then the Clippers and Lakers stole back the spotlight and now have four of the top 10 NBA players on their rosters. These two franchises will likely be in the thick of this come playoff time and reshaped the NBA landscape with their offseason moves.
The Clippers are stacked because they had been a group that was 48-win without Kawhi Leonard and Paul George and did not need to sacrifice any roster depth to bring both of these studs. And while I will commend Kawhi and George because the reasons for why theyre the faves, the fact they can still roll Montrezl Harrell and Lou Williams out against opposing second components makes them dangerous.
In terms of the Lakers, they cant be dismissed as liver. Theyhave arguably the best centre in the league at Anthony Davis, also ll have a LeBron James, who also missed the postseason for the first time since his second time in the NBA. But when I had to make a choice between the two teams, I have to choose the Clippers because Im dubious of the Lakers supporting cast.
The Lakers needed to scavenge during the scrap heap of staying free agents after carrying out hope for Kawhi to register with them and ended up knocking players that are mediocre. Dont get me wrong, I think Danny Green, DeMarcus Cousins and Jared Dudley are players that are great. But when you pile up this roster versus the Clippers or a number of??the contenders in the West, I feel like theyre one injury away to having the house of cards fall.
The reigning Western Conference champions for five straight seasons, this will be the ideal cost (+800) that bettorsve seen for the Golden State Warriors to win the West in quite a while. And personally, I think that they can easily win their conference only because they have Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.
Steph is probably going to have a huge season (second-best chances to Win NBA MVP) and Draymond is still a beast defensively, therefore I think discussion about the Warriors death is somewhat premature.
For just how far they could go the X factors come down to well DAngelo Russell meshes with their crime and if Klay Thompson can return from his ACL tear. Thompson isnt expected back till March or February and there is no point to rush him back because you need him to get the postseason, if you are the Warriors.
In terms of Russell, I am actually much higher on this acquisition compared to most and he will be an excellent scorer/playmaker to incorporate into Steve Kerrs crime. Russell averaged 21 points per game last year with not nearly the quantity of high-end ability in Oakland and I also think he could initiate the crime to take some pressure off Curry and allow him come off screens and unleash the three-pointer.
I believe the Warriors in +800 are a steal once the season gets mad, and these chances will fall.
The two groups that have great value and??rosters that may compete would be the Denver Nuggets (+1000) along with Utah Jazz (+900). Both teams made the playoffs last year and produced some roster tweaks which can only assist their chances to make the NBA Finals.
The Nuggets flamed out of the second round after a challenging seven-game series with the Blazers but the??organic growth within the business is hard to fade, especially with the growth of center Nikola Jokic into a top-10 NBA participant.
All centers were directed by jokic along with the Nuggets have depth to generate a deep postseason run. My favorite movement was their acquisition of??Jerami??Grant in the Thunder to play up front.
Last year the Nuggets were a casualty of a Paul Millsap miscue and??it cost them. I guess Denvers about it wouldnt shock me to see that the Nuggets once the season finishes and an upward trend.
In Comparison with the Nuggets, the more splashy moves were made by the Jazz in the offseason by signing Bojan Bogdanovic in the Pacers and trading for Mike Conley in the Grizzlies. Conley will be the greatest point guard of the Jazz because they exchanged Deron Williams at 2011. Guard play has been a source of frustration for Utah when they played with with the boys since that commerce ever in the playoffs.
Defense and conleys shooting doubles down on they will be a insect and what the Jazz do best because they have been one of the best defensive teams in the NBA. I am not as large on them compared to the Warriors or Nuggets but I really do believe they have a terrific shot to make it to the Western Conference final.
Curious at August 14
