If you’re anything like me, you’ve been counting down the days for??college soccer’s return since the Clemson ended placing a whupping on Alabama at the tournament. The waiting is over and football is back.??
There’s a good deal of doubt when it comes to choosing matches of college soccer due to new head coaches, the turnover, lack of key players, along with freshman/inexperienced quarterbacks in Week 1. But that will not stop any people from betting, now will it? There are??so many games on the slate however there are a few matchups which have caught my eye and a couple of teams that I’ll be interested in watching due to new strategies training players.
Here’s what I’ll be seeing in Week 1:
True freshman Hank Bachmeier has been named the starting quarterback for Boise State later it was noted that redshirt sophomore Chase Cord had yet to take a snap with the No. 1 offense after tearing his ACL midway through last season. Big shoes to fill as the starter, Brett Rypien of last year, abandoned as a undrafted player to the NFL, ending his college career with a 3,700-yard, 30-touchdown season, also Offensive POY honors in the seminar. If healthy, it was anticipated that Cord would observe the start but rather we capture Bachmeier, who’s the first freshman.
On the flip side, you own a staff in Florida State that on paper??must create greater than it did??last season, finishing 3-5 and just 5-7 in the conference. The Seminoles??are always the best recruitment team at the conference, possess a top returning production, receive a new OC at Kendal Briles from Houston, along with a (somewhat) experienced QB. The question is, how do we trust Willie Taggart, who’s entering his second year, as a head coach? This past year, the team had a decent defense but was near??the??bottom (13th) in??crime — ahead of just Louisville, which??finished with a 2-10 record, 0-8 in conference.
Why I’m excited about this matchup: We get a complete unknown in QB play for Boise State, a group that is regarded highly by the market (9.5 regular-season win complete ) playing with a team which should see a better year. However, does??Florida State make??it back to a bowl (after its 36-year streak finished with Taggart), or boost its??2018 record of 5-7 to perhaps 7-5 or greater?
Odds: Boise State is currently +5.5??on a neutral field. If trends are liked by you, the Broncos are 5-0 ATS in their last five matches when playing with the underdog and head coach Bryan Harsin is 11-2 as a underdog over his livelihood.
I love college football because I love games that are offensive. Let’s light up the scoreboard, boys! Houston has QB D’Eriq King returning after capping an excellent 2018 season off completing 63 percent of his passes with 50 touchdowns ! As a top-20 passing offense, the Cougars will look to keep that prowess much as they get a new head coach in Dana Holgorsen. Though Houston does lose OC Kendal Briles into Florida State, I would expect a pure transition with Holgorsen, that was the head coach in West Virginia (top five??at passing last year), so not a major change in offensive styles.
Anticipate expect and points A LOT! In passing defense of 130, Houston ranked 130th out in 2018 — Oklahoma was a smidge better, shutting the year ranked 129th out — although yes, that means they were .
You could create a drinking game out of the for each and every touchdown scored: I’m looking forward to this matchup. Let’s not! Oklahoma has amazed the last few years because of terrific QB play from Murray and Mayfield. Well, they are both gone into the NFL and OU now has but is he Murray/Mayfield great? Will he be able to put those kinds of stats up? I am sure of King’s abilities although it remains to be seen.
Odds: Houston is +23??on the road with the OVER/UNDER??set at 82.5 (steep). The total has gone over and above in 11 of OU’s past 15 games.
Shane Buechele! The QB is a move from Texas who played in every game as a freshman. He listed 11 interceptions and 21 touchdowns. Then came Sam Ehlinger, that became Texas’ brand new player. The Mustangs closed out a year with a 5-7 record, going.
Arkansas State went season and that I can not say with assurance that it will be replicated. QB Justice Hansen was great the best quarterback in the Sun Belt Conference, at his position, but he has now gone. In regards Logan Bonner with little to no experience. The Red Wolves may have some regression without All-Conference left handle their All-Conference QB and corner. They’ll be starting the year to make things worse. Anderson tragically lost his wife after she fought breast cancer for the second time. While a while leave is taken by Anderson, defensive coordinator David Duggan will take over.
Why I’m excited about this match: I believe SMU has some upside. We know what Buechele is really capable of generating so I would think there’s some potential there for a QB that is high-ceiling. Add this to the mix of returning employees (HC, OC, DC all in their second year) and also this Mustangs team possibly has a shot in a good period — at a six-win year old.
Opportunities: OVER/UNDER 58, Arkansas State -3.
Georgia??Southern QB Shai Werts did not throw one interception that the entire year this past year after playing almost every snap — using only 10 touchdowns (zero selections!) . I just wish to determine if this streak can continue vs for forcing a great deal of turnovers, a LSU defense that’s famous. This is a game where when Werts throws an option, I’m changing the station. I would be shocked if I wind up not reaching to the remote.
Truth: LSU -28, OVER/UNDER 53.
GT’s head coach, Paul Johnson, retired after last year and it would be for conducting the triple-option crime for decades when GT is known for something. Well, now that’s gone as GT has attracted the previous two decades, in Geoff Collins, who was the head coach at Temple. The offense will change, but what’s expected? Your guess is as good as minebut Collins has said he’ll be running an”NFL-style, spread-based attack” — so a more conventional, pro-style crime.
Expect distinct, but distinct will not necessarily imply magic.
Truth: Clemson -36, OVER/UNDER 60.
A game of two teams which don’t??create much enthusiasm, accurate. But NIU is a group, I think. After causing this the Huskies took the name of MAC champions for the very first time because 2014, ending 8-6, 6-2 in conference. They’ve lost their bowl game the past two years (2018 vs UAB, 2017 vs Duke), but they have some changes which make me interested in seeing if they could progress. NIU has a new head coach in Thomas Hammock, who was the Baltimore Ravens RB coach for the past five decades although that does not have any head coaching experience.
RB Tre Harbison can see a much bigger boost in production for this. He was the first rusher in NIU with 1,034 metres, ending since 2015. I think after dropping his 15 sacks and DE Sutton Smith to the NFL, NIU will remain a team. This team has also a QB , offensive coordinator, and a new HC but an wager to win the MAC at +500 is.
Curious: OVER/UNDER NA, NIU -5.5
